Nordform vs Autodesk Fusion
Where a kit-house concept workflow sits next to mechanical CAD.
What each one does
Nordform works on kit-house concepts: a brief, a configurable frame, immutable revisions, review and concept exports. Autodesk Fusion, formerly Fusion 360, is integrated computer-aided design, manufacturing, engineering and printed-circuit-board software for product design, with simulation, machining and additive workflows.
| Need | Nordform today | Autodesk Fusion |
|---|---|---|
| Start a kit-house concept | Guided template and browser preview | General parametric part and assembly modelling |
| Manufacturing output | STEP concept solids and a grouped timber list; no joints, machining allowances or toolpaths | CAM toolpaths, additive set-up and shop documentation |
| Simulation and checks | Deterministic concept checks; no load checks yet | Simulation studies alongside the model |
| Concept exports | DXF, IFC 4.3, STEP, PDF, CSV, GLB, STL and JSON concept files | Native cloud files plus common mechanical CAD exchange formats |
How they meet
Nordform’s STEP export carries one named part per frame member as a plain solid, so a concept can be opened in a mechanical CAD tool like Fusion for detailing.
What Nordform does not do
No machining, simulation or free-form part design. Nordform stops at a reviewable concept and a supported parameter set, and has not demonstrated feature parity with Fusion.
