One run for the manufacturer, and nothing else of the design
A designer can now send a manufacturer one finished run of a design, with its check results and the version it read, inside the order they share. The manufacturer reads that and nothing else of the design.
When a supplier designs for an equipment maker, the manufacturer often needs to see the design, but not all of it: not the earlier versions, the what-ifs or the working figures. A design used to either stay with its owner or go out as files in a mail, with no record in the order of which version was sent or what it had been checked against.
An order can now carry one shared run of a design.
Sharing from the run
A finished run, a design run or a checks run, has Share through an order in its panel beside the conversation. The order's project manager or design lead picks one of the orders they manage, writes a note saying what the share is for, and shares it. Only a finished run on their own design can be shared. A run still going cannot.
What the manufacturer reads
The order shows each share under Shared designs: its note, who shared it and when, and the version it carries, with the date it was saved and its fingerprint. Opening a share shows the run's report in the same rows as in the conversation (Ran, Needs a change, Not run, Rests on). Download this version saves the version's design inputs as a file.
On the supplier's side the project manager, the design lead, the Nordform designer and the workshop read shares. On the manufacturer's side, the project manager and the layout engineer do. The site supervisor and the manufacturer's quality role read no design on an order, so they do not read a share either.
Nothing else of the design
A reader names only the share: nothing on the order opens a version, a project or a run by its own id, and opening a share through another order is refused. The manufacturer reaches that version and that run, and not the designer's other versions, the project conversation or its other runs.
Everything shared is read-only. The manufacturer cannot change the version, the run or its results, and a share cannot be pointed at another version later. The designer who shared it, or the supplier's project manager on the order, can revoke it, and after that it no longer opens.
Scope
- A share carries the version's design inputs and the run's check results. It does not carry a 3D view, drawings or export files.
- Shares start from a finished run in the workspace.
- The check results screen a concept. They approve nothing.
- Revoking a share stops it opening. A file already downloaded stays with whoever downloaded it.
